Resonances 1 18" x 7" x 5" (mason jars, small FM radios, sound, LED lights)
This piece is one of an ongoing series that explores the acoustics of enclosed spaces. Here, small radios are placed inside mason jars. The radios are all tuned to different talk radio stations and the antenna of each is extended enough so that it makes contact with the inside of the lid. Each lid is tightened by a different amount, causing it to have a different tension and resonant frequency. The jar acts as a filter and the lid as a resonator. The amount of tension on the lid gives each jar a different resonant frequency that is activated by the rhythm of the speech coming out of the radio.
